Sky-Watcher NEQ-3 Pro GoTo Mount

Technical sheet for the Sky-Watcher NEQ-3 Pro GoTo equatorial mount: description, specifications and strengths.

Sky-Watcher NEQ-3 Pro GoTo mount

Description

The NEQ-3 Pro GoTo is an entry-level German equatorial (GEM) mount from Sky-Watcher, motorized on both axes and driven by a SynScan hand controller. It targets small instruments — short refractors, small Newtonians, or smart telescopes mounted alongside — and is often the first goto mount an amateur astronomer owns.

Its more modest payload compared to the EQ6-R Pro makes it an ideal mount for lightweight gear and for getting started in astrophotography, while keeping size and weight very reasonable for field use.

⚙️ HARDWARE An entry-level goto mount: great for getting started with automatic pointing and sidereal tracking, but the limited payload means sticking to lightweight instruments for good long-exposure results.

Strengths

  • Very accessible entry price for a dual-axis motorized goto mount.
  • Low weight and footprint, easy to carry for field sessions.
  • Same SynScan ecosystem as higher-end mounts (app, hand controller, object catalog).
  • Good starting point to discover goto before investing in a higher-payload mount.

Coming up

This sheet will be expanded with real-world feedback on the instrument mounted on it and the tracking quality achieved in practice.
