Conan Exiles opens with a bang: your character is left crucified in the desert, saved at the last second by Conan himself, and dropped naked and empty-handed into a hostile world. From there it’s classic survival — gather, shelter, eat — but carried by the brutal, visceral atmosphere of Robert E. Howard’s universe, a far cry from the sanitized aesthetic of many games in the genre.
Building an empire, stone by stone
The building system is one of the most complete in the genre: you start with a wooden hut and branches and end up with multi-story stone fortresses packed with thrall farms, crafting stations and traps to fend off raids. The verticality and architectural freedom are impressive, to the point where you can easily spend more time designing your base than exploring the map.
Combat, religion and thralls
Combat is more technical than a typical survival sandbox, demanding real reflexes — dodges, combos, stamina management. Alongside that, the thrall system (NPCs captured and converted to fight or work for you) and the religions you can unlock add a layer of progression far richer than the genre’s average, even if the game stays demanding and sometimes punishing for anyone who shows up unprepared.
