The Planet Crafter

The Planet Crafter offers a goal rare in the survival genre: you’re not just trying to survive one more day, you’re literally transforming an entire, brutally hostile and toxic planet into a world humanity can live on. Every action has a measurable impact on three planetary counters — temperature, pressure, oxygen — which climb slowly but surely as you install heat generators, gas extractors and vaporizers.

Watching a dead planet come back to life

The game’s greatest achievement is making a progression that spans dozens of hours feel visible and satisfying: the ice starting to melt, the toxic clouds thinning out, then the first rains, the first vegetation, until the day you can finally take off your helmet and breathe the open air. Few games deliver such a tangible sense of accomplishment over such a long stretch of time.

A simple but effective gameplay loop

Outside of the terraforming, the loop stays classic — mine, craft, unlock new tech through a generous research tree — but it fully serves the main objective, without an influx of enemies or unnecessary combat mechanics. It’s a contemplative, almost meditative survival game, where the real antagonist is the planet itself rather than some outside threat.
