Metroid Dread revives the series’ 2D Metroidvania formula after years without a new side-scrolling entry, with a standout addition: the E.M.M.I. robots, invincible in direct combat, which hunt Samus through specific zones and force you to lean on evasion and stealth rather than confrontation. The pacing stays brisk throughout, mixing the series’ classic exploration with tense infiltration sequences, making it widely regarded as one of the best 2D Metroid games since Super Metroid.
