First attempt at a hydroponic tower
I got into hydroponics and here is my first version of the “hydroponic tower”
A very simple system:
- 50mm diameter tube pierced with 40programmation hole (diameter of buckets)
- elbowsi pipe to assemble 3 tubes into a triangle
- a pump to raise the water
- a bucket for the water
The assembly was done by shifting the angles to have a triangle but taking care to have the tubes with a little slope. As a result, the high end is above the bucket and the water flows through the 3 tubes and the low end is also above the bucket.
So after a few weeks, I saw the faults of this assembly:
- Benefits:
- Nothing to say, the plants (strawberries) have grown
- Water flows well (at the beginning)
- recovery material, therefore very low cost
- quick to build
- Inconvenience:
- root growth blocks the water flow: tube too small in diameter
- it’s a bit of DIY, so try to do better, because the system is unstable
- takes up a little space compared to a vertical tower
The fact that the roots block the flow of water means that we quickly find ourselves with water everywhere.
So I went to another tower version.
